WELCOME 2016!!!!!! I AM BACK......

HELLO, HELLO, HELLO....

Gosh, I honestly do not know where to begin, but here I am and I am FINALLY ready to get back in the groove.....parchment groove, that is!!  As you can see, on the date of my 'last' post, it has been well over a year since I was here last and LOTS has happened, both medically and personally, but for now, we will stick to parching.....bottom line is, I found my mojo and am busy once again.  :)

So, lets get down to business and see what I'm up to for the next few months.  First, I have begun designing a Zodiac Birth Sign Collection of 8"X8" wall hangings and I will be posting a new birth sign each month throughout this year.  They will be available for purchase, and download upon receipt of payment, in the blog store.  Now, every parcher will agree that creating anything for the males in our lives (from parchment paper) is 'almost' impossible, so although I tried not to be gender specific in this collection, it does have a definite rugged 'look' to it, soooooo, later on I will design another complete collection that is a bit more feminine so no one gets left out!!!!!!  Here is a sample of the first collection:

 Zodiac Birth Sign Collection

When one is not parching for an extended time it's very difficult to remember everything in the right order, in this craft, when writing instructions!!!!  I had hoped to have the Capricorn completed in time (in December) to have it posted and ready for purchase, but with the holidays I couldn't get everything in order, so it is ready NOW, if anyone wants to start their collection with this sign.  Otherwise, the next sign is Aquarius and it will be posted over this weekend (1/17) so watch for it!!

I have also had many requests for the pattern pack for my Crowning Glory design and it took me quite awhile to 'remember' how I had put all my scribbling to together, but it finally was completed and it will also be in the blog store very soon.  Here is that design, as a reminder:

Lastly, for this time.....I would like to thank one and all for your loyalty in continuing to 'check in' here to see if I was still around over the last 1 1/2 years and to all my fellow parchers for the support and kind words when I have had the courage to try and get something 'new' posted every once in awhile on FB.  It truly has meant a lot to me to know that there are lots of wonderful folks who enjoy my work watching for something new to pop up somewhere!!!!!  :)

Well, that's it for now.  There will be some challenges started too (like we used to have....sorry, but no prizes because the geographical coordination from sponsors is nearly impossible for us on this side of the pond) but we will continue to have fun with challenges simply for that......the fun in it!!!!

Happy New Year to everyone and

How To Make a Colored Pencil Storage Carousel (Tutorial)

Hi everyone,

For anyone looking for the "How To Make a Colored Pencil Storage Carousel" Tutorial.....I have moved it to the Tutorials Page and it will be there, for safe keeping, from now on.  Just click on the Tutorial tab at the top of this page and everything is over there!!

While I'm here, I would also like to bring a brief update on my health.....so everyone who has been thinking I have totally disappeared can rest easy 'cause I'm still around!!!!  :))  I have made good progress in learning how to manage my most recent diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and I have been parching for only short periods of time and relearning lots of things from Polio limitations that have had to be intertwined with the constant pain of the fibromyalgia.......UGH!!  So, there you have a 'brief' health update and I can't even begin to tell you how much I have missed the craft I love so much over these past many, many months.  I didn't really realize how long it was going to take to learn how to live my life, again, with an additional 'handicap', but I'm not a quitter, so as long as I can breathe, I will be making progress.

Sooooooo, I'm anxious to get back on track and (no promises, this time!!) I'm anxious to begin challenging myself (and all of you!!) to try new things in this awesome ancient craft.

See you soon....

WELCOME 2014!!!

Hi everyone,

Ummmmmm, yep you are at the right place!!!  It's a new year....a new beginning, for me....and a new 'look' for my blog as well.  Do you like the new look?  :)

Well, I'm a few days late with the Happy New Year, but I'm very pleased to finally leave 2013 behind and begin a new journey.  It's a bit out of character, for me, to share much of my private life with my readers because it's much more inspiring, for me, to share all the exciting things (old and new) in the awesome world of Parchment Craft.....but, this is one time (and most likely the only time) I will share what has 'really' been going on with me over the past 18+ months.

All of you who have followed me loyally, and those who have purchased my Ebook, "Parchment Craft Etched Glass Technique", know that I had polio (something the young people of today have never heard of) when I was 8 years old.....a loooooooong time ago because I'm a senior citizen now!!  Anyway, without going into boring detail, I'll simply say that it destroyed the nerves and muscle in my right shoulder and as it would happen, I'm right handed....lol   As I have gotten older....and then even oldER....all that damage became very difficult for me to 'adjust' my life around and eventually I found that using my right arm for some of the parchment techniques became unbearable so I had to slow the one thing I loved (parchment craft) down to a crawl, which I began to do in the middle of 2012.  This is why those of you who "used" to look forward to a new, exciting post from me, on a sort of regular  basis, were seeing less and less of me through the remainder of 2012 and then into most of 2013.

During these 18 months, I have, unfortunately, had several more health issues to deal with (acute sleep apnea and macular degeneration in my eyes, plus I've had some 'mini strokes' during these months as well).....which have required more 'life adjustments', as I call them, and the most difficult one for me has been the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia.  I know a lot of my parching friends, around the world, also have this very painful disease and they have found ways to deal with it.  I have been, and continue to be, in the ongoing process of 'learning how to combine my Post Polio Syndrome AND the new Fibromyalgia.  Both diseases are similar, in a lot of ways but the Fibromyalgia has been a very difficult challenge for me since I was diagnosed late last spring.  As I stated earlier, other health issues (the 'old age' ones!!) are now mixed amongst these two debilitating health matters, so I literally have had to learn how to 'navigate' my life, all over again and that is what I have had to dedicate my life to these past months.

The learning process will never be over, but I believe I am now ready (or at least ready 'enough!!) to get back to my beloved parching, so let's get with it and get back to having some fun.....

It seemed like it took me 'forever' to make this project.  I titled it Diamonds and Pearls and I challenged myself with this piece because solid embossing is now very, very difficult for me to do, so instead of worrying over making a white work piece in solid embossing, I simply chose to make "pearls" everywhere!!!

Diamonds & Pearls

The center of each of the flowers has a szarwoski crystal in it, but they do not show in the scan. :(  I did photograph it, as well, but the stones still wouldn't show nicely.  Here it is all tucked into a simple frame for hanging!!

Now, I'm sure there are probably plenty of folks, out there, (who might have arthritis, or other debilitating/painful joint issues) who have already discovered it is easier on your dominant arm/hand to make lots of "pearls", instead of solid embossing, on our parchment projects, but it was an 'ah-ha' moment for me, when I thought I'd give it a try on this project!!  Solid embossing, for me, has always been difficult to do because I can never seem to get all of it to be the same 'whiteness', but now this works perfectly, so I'm going to continue to make projects using another of 'my own' techniques!!  :)

So, now that you all know how I made my own version of Diamonds & Pearls, here is the pattern and I'd love to see how any of you would complete it.....

It is a graphic image I have had for a very long time and it was fun putting it to parchment.  Give it a try and see where your own creative 'eye' takes you!!  Good luck and enjoy.  :)

Parchment Craft Grid Work - Challenge!!

Hello, hello, hello!!!

Goodness, it seems like it's been forever since my last post, but in fact, it's only been a few weeks!!  Okay, let's get things started.....

Several months ago I purchased Kannikar Sukseree's latest book titled, Best of the Best Parchment Craft Grid Work and although I've not been able to make as many projects as I would like to, I did do something a bit different with one of the grid patterns that I liked, from the book.  The pattern I chose, is on Page 22 and I challenged myself to see how many different variations (aside from the ones already in the book!!) I could make.

So, I began my self inflicted challenge by making one, of a collection of Vintage Ladies that I have, and for the image, I also incorporated my own parchment craft technique, "Etched Glass", which can be purchased by clicking on the image below.

Okay, here are my beautiful ladies.....let's see if you can easily see the differences between each of the grid borders I made, from only one foundation pattern from Kanny's book!!!

My version of Grid 27
Grid 27 - Looks the same but it's not

My version of Grid 27
My version of Grid 27

This was a wonderful challenge, for me, and it was absolutely amazing just how many different borders I could create from just the one grid design!!  There are probably many more variations of the foundation design, but I was ready to move on to a new project, so I only challenged myself to do four.

I've shared my challenge with all of you, and now I would like to challenge anyone, who also purchased Kannikar Sukseree's Grid Work book, to take on the task of choosing one pattern from the book and see how many different ways it can be made.....or just challenge yourself to creating four new grid borders from one foundation pattern!!

Who is up for the challenge?
