Gemini & Cancer Birth Signs

Hello, hello....

Just a quick update on the status of the Zodiac Birth Sign Collection.  Gemini and Cancer are the next to be completed and Leo, of course, is already done and in the store.  I will be taking a very brief  'time out' over the first part of April and will then continue the remainder of the parchment collection.

I have also removed my Ebook "Parchment Craft 'Etched Glass' Technique" from the publishing site it has always been on and although it is no longer in print, it can still be purchased directly from me, (via PayPal) if anyone has an interest.  Bear in mind, one needs to know, at least, the basics of photo editing, or have a parching tutor who has learned the technique and can assist, but it is not a difficult technique to learn simply from the Ebook, as there are lots of visual, as well as written, instructions.

Also, if anyone has something, in particular, they would like to see, here on the blog, please drop thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc., in the comments and I'm looking forward to reading them!!!

Lastly, for this time.....I have had inquiries about the Christmas images I have used on my cards, over the past few years, and they want to know where to get the images.  They have always been right here on the blog, to download FREE, so here is a challenge for you!!  Simply, grab a cuppa, put your feet up and take a break.....then get comfortable and browse backward through the 'older' posts and you will soon find where the "Etched Glass" Christmas images are that are absolutely FREE to download and use.

Until next time....

WHOOHOO!!! Taurus #1&2 In Store!!!

Hi everyone,

Well, after many hours of fighting pc crashes/blog totally disappearing/printer out of ink/backup printer not compatible with some of the programs I use on the desktop, etc., etc., etc., I finally have both Taurus birth signs in the store.  Please be sure and let me know if anything is not working right though because all is well on this end.....so I HOPE it is on yours as well. :)

If anyone has missed the ongoing posts about the Taurus signs, I made two of them because some parts of the world consider 'any' hoofed, male animal (aside from horses, etc) to be "The Bull", while here in the USA we put cattle in that category, so in order to have everyone covered, I made one of each so no one would be left out.

All that's necessary for you to do now is choose which suits you, or your recipient, and they remain the same price (individually) as all the previous signs.  For those who would like BOTH signs I have given a discount, so pick what you want and then have fun!!

Reminder:  I always put my contact info, and the link here to my blog, on all of my pattern packs, so if my designing doesn't make as much sense to you, as it did to me, then don't panic because you can reach me with questions....or simply to shout "I don't get this"!!!!!!! :)  :)  :)

TAURUS #1 & 2 - Available March 13

UPDATE:  Because Taurus #2 will be ready over the upcoming weekend, I am moving the "in store" date of #1 to the 13th so that both signs can be posted together and you folks will have a choice of which version of the sign you prefer!!  :)

Hello everyone,

Okay, I know.....everybody is wondering why there is a "Taurus #1".....right??  :)  Well, during my research on this particular birth sign, some information said the males of hoofed animals were always called a 'bull' in various countries of the world, so I proceeded to create what has turned out to be "Taurus #1" because I have since learned that the info might be different, sooooooo, I also have a "Taurus #2", which will be complete by weeks end, and it is a 'bull' as those of us here in the USA know them!!!!!  When all is said and done, I believe everyone will be covered in whatever their particular version of a 'bull' is.  :)

Now, it doesn't show very well in this photo, but the majority of this project is made with a technique called "perga-broidery" and you can also find it in some of Manuela Provensano's work, as it is one of her techniques that many of us use often.  It is a very demanding technique and can create a very nice blister on your middle finger, but it's quite lovely when complete........give it a try and you will see for yourself!!  lol

The pattern pack will be posted in the "New Designs" store by mid week and the 2nd version will follow shortly thereafter!!

ARIES - Zodiac Birth Sign Now in NEW Design Store

Hi all,

Well now, I have had this design ready to post since Friday but couldn't manage to get near enough to my desktop pc to put it all together for blog posting. :((   Anyway, folks, here is the next installation of the Zodiac Birth Sign Collection and it is a bit simpler than any of the previous designs.....because The Ram is a pretty intimidating without a 'busy' border!!

The next sign is, of course, Taurus, and several people are waiting on that one, so I'll move from my desktop system back over to the work/designing desk and get with the program...lol

NEW PATTERNS IN STORE

Hi everyone,

My apologies for the delay in posting of completed packs, but it's been one thing after another and although that certainly should never be a reason a blogger should use, it is what it is!!!  lol

Anyway, there may still be some 'bugs' in the "store" and please let me know if that is the case.  Over the holidays I upgraded my devices from what they were to Windows 10 and it's not been pleasant in some instances, but I'm doing the best I can with conditions as they are.....for now.  So, please bear with me and as I stated.....if you find glitches, please let me know ASAP so I can attempt to correct them and make everyone happy. :) :)

As promised, the Birth Sign Zodiac patterns (3 that are completed, so far), are in the store and the Crowning Glory pattern is also now in the store.  The 'bad' news is:  those of us here in the US have lost most of our local suppliers (which were very few to begin with) and Ecstasy Crafts has raised their prices for parchment supplies which makes it absolutely necessary for me to raise the prices for my patterns.....as well as my commission work.  I hate doing this but I have no other option and I want to continue to be productive as long as I possibly can.....or as long as the supplies last!!!!  So, be angry with me, but please, buy if you can so I can continue to do what I love.

Here are the patterns that are in the store as of today......Sunday, Jan. 24, 1016  I am continuing to work on more Zodiac signs and Pisces is soon to be posted, so watch for that next.

If you are wondering why the Leo is in the mix this time......well, it is my own birth sign and it's the one I made first to test the pattern!!!

Parchment Craft Bridges...

HOW TO PREVENT PARCHMENT BRIDGES
FROM BREAKING WHEN CUTTING - A
SHORT TUTORIAL

A lot of parchment crafters seem to shy away from cut work, and grid work,  for many reasons and one of them is the fear of ending up with a project full of broken bridges!!  Several weeks ago I promised a dear friend that I would share "my secret" for perforating, and cutting, in parchment work without breaking bridges.  Problem is/was....I became ill and I forgot I had committed to do that and the question came up again very recently...and I was reminded I had done a boo-boo in not keeping my promise to her :((  Sooooooo, here I am and I'm ready (I think!!) to attempt to put my tried and true 'secret' to paper, and photo, without totally confusing all of you :))

First, here is a photo of an unfinished parchment piece that I have had for ages and ages....don't really know why I ever even kept it, but sure glad I did because it's coming in quite handy for this post.....lol

Left click to enlarge the image for better viewing.

The way I have managed to make my bridges VERY thin, and still not have them break when cutting, is really a matter of 'focus' when you do any cutting on parchment.  Slow down and take your time when cutting AND you must learn to 'look around' the area you want to cut next!!  Let's follow the areas I have marked on the photo above.

#1:  Take your time and look very closely at the UNCUT area that is perforated.  Look at the GREEN arrow in the CUT area.  To avoid breaking parchment bridges (bridges are the thin, perforated strips of parchment that are left after the cutting is done) it is very important that you BEGIN cutting a new area (#1 uncut area) on the opposite side of the already cut side of the bridge.  **Stop reading now and take a serious look at the #1 area on the photo again**  The first cut you will make on the uncut side of that bridge will be in the top corner....cut to the bottom and you will now have a bridge that is totally cut away from the parchment paper....now, it is safe to finish cutting the remaining perforations, in that area, away.

#2:  Let's have a look at area #2.  I have marked it with GREEN, once again, but look at the whole area and you would then make your decision as to where to begin cutting that area.  This whole process is basically simply changing your cutting habits to looking around the whole area close to where you will cut and identify where the bridges are that are already cut on one side.  Now, be very careful with area #2 because there are two separate areas that need to be cut here!!

#3:  Take your time and look around area #3.  Following my 'secret rules', decide where you will begin cutting the parchment paper out of that area....without breaking the bridge.

#4:  Repeat the first three steps throughout your parchment project and it will be a very, very rare occasion that you will ever have a broken bridge again.

Now, you ask.....how and why does this keep the bridges from breaking??  All those little pieces of solid parchment paper that we cut away from the bridges are the foundation to that particular space.  They are the strength in that little space, soooo, if we leave the strength there, and cut the weak parts first (the bridge itself), as we are cutting the bridge, the strong part of the area is holding the bridge from moving or flipping up/down while we cut.  The bridge remains safe and sound and you can now proceed with cutting the remainder of the parchment paper away from all the other sides in that particular space.

If my tutorial is still confusing to you, just grab some scrap parchment and make a practice lattice area (a tick-tack-toe area without the x's and o's!!) and emboss the straight lines of the lattice in any thickness you wish.  Now, begin cutting following the instructions!!!!  No, no, no....don't start screaming.....it'll be just fine.....you'll see :))

**Enlarge the photo above and print it out. Place it close by, for easy reference,  while doing your scrap 'practice' work!!**  Thanks, Judith Maslen, for the suggestion.

Oh....and try not to get frustrated because, after all, the Golden Rule in parchment craft is what??  PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!!!

Anyone with questions...please ask in the comment box and I'll answer there, as well.  That way everyone will benefit from all the questions and answers :))
