Gemini & Cancer Birth Signs

Hello, hello....

Just a quick update on the status of the Zodiac Birth Sign Collection.  Gemini and Cancer are the next to be completed and Leo, of course, is already done and in the store.  I will be taking a very brief  'time out' over the first part of April and will then continue the remainder of the parchment collection.

I have also removed my Ebook "Parchment Craft 'Etched Glass' Technique" from the publishing site it has always been on and although it is no longer in print, it can still be purchased directly from me, (via PayPal) if anyone has an interest.  Bear in mind, one needs to know, at least, the basics of photo editing, or have a parching tutor who has learned the technique and can assist, but it is not a difficult technique to learn simply from the Ebook, as there are lots of visual, as well as written, instructions.

Also, if anyone has something, in particular, they would like to see, here on the blog, please drop thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc., in the comments and I'm looking forward to reading them!!!

Lastly, for this time.....I have had inquiries about the Christmas images I have used on my cards, over the past few years, and they want to know where to get the images.  They have always been right here on the blog, to download FREE, so here is a challenge for you!!  Simply, grab a cuppa, put your feet up and take a break.....then get comfortable and browse backward through the 'older' posts and you will soon find where the "Etched Glass" Christmas images are that are absolutely FREE to download and use.

Until next time....

WHOOHOO!!! Taurus #1&2 In Store!!!

Hi everyone,

Well, after many hours of fighting pc crashes/blog totally disappearing/printer out of ink/backup printer not compatible with some of the programs I use on the desktop, etc., etc., etc., I finally have both Taurus birth signs in the store.  Please be sure and let me know if anything is not working right though because all is well on this end.....so I HOPE it is on yours as well. :)

If anyone has missed the ongoing posts about the Taurus signs, I made two of them because some parts of the world consider 'any' hoofed, male animal (aside from horses, etc) to be "The Bull", while here in the USA we put cattle in that category, so in order to have everyone covered, I made one of each so no one would be left out.

All that's necessary for you to do now is choose which suits you, or your recipient, and they remain the same price (individually) as all the previous signs.  For those who would like BOTH signs I have given a discount, so pick what you want and then have fun!!

Reminder:  I always put my contact info, and the link here to my blog, on all of my pattern packs, so if my designing doesn't make as much sense to you, as it did to me, then don't panic because you can reach me with questions....or simply to shout "I don't get this"!!!!!!! :)  :)  :)

TAURUS #1 & 2 - Available March 13

UPDATE:  Because Taurus #2 will be ready over the upcoming weekend, I am moving the "in store" date of #1 to the 13th so that both signs can be posted together and you folks will have a choice of which version of the sign you prefer!!  :)

Hello everyone,

Okay, I know.....everybody is wondering why there is a "Taurus #1".....right??  :)  Well, during my research on this particular birth sign, some information said the males of hoofed animals were always called a 'bull' in various countries of the world, so I proceeded to create what has turned out to be "Taurus #1" because I have since learned that the info might be different, sooooooo, I also have a "Taurus #2", which will be complete by weeks end, and it is a 'bull' as those of us here in the USA know them!!!!!  When all is said and done, I believe everyone will be covered in whatever their particular version of a 'bull' is.  :)

Now, it doesn't show very well in this photo, but the majority of this project is made with a technique called "perga-broidery" and you can also find it in some of Manuela Provensano's work, as it is one of her techniques that many of us use often.  It is a very demanding technique and can create a very nice blister on your middle finger, but it's quite lovely when complete........give it a try and you will see for yourself!!  lol

The pattern pack will be posted in the "New Designs" store by mid week and the 2nd version will follow shortly thereafter!!

ARIES - Zodiac Birth Sign Now in NEW Design Store

Hi all,

Well now, I have had this design ready to post since Friday but couldn't manage to get near enough to my desktop pc to put it all together for blog posting. :((   Anyway, folks, here is the next installation of the Zodiac Birth Sign Collection and it is a bit simpler than any of the previous designs.....because The Ram is a pretty intimidating without a 'busy' border!!

The next sign is, of course, Taurus, and several people are waiting on that one, so I'll move from my desktop system back over to the work/designing desk and get with the program...lol

PISCES - NOW IN STORE!!

Happy Valentines Day to all,

Well, I had hoped to have this Zodiac Birth Sign completed yesterday but sometimes high tech devices don't want to cooperate with a human being, soooooooo, here is the PISCES sign finally finished!!  Just click on the "NEW" Designs Store tab and have fun.....

Now, you will notice that the border on this sign is different from the first three signs already in the store.....which by the way, are the very same 'foundation' border pattern BUT if you look closely you will see they are all finished in a completely different way.  Just thought I'd mention that again in case no one scrolled to the bottom of the page before now.....lol  Anyway, the border on this sign is different and I will be using the same 'foundation' for Aires and Taurus, but my challenge to myself is to find a way to also make them different from the techniques I used on the Pisces....follow me??  :)

I also want/need to mention in this post that if anyone prefers their Zodiac Birth Sign made using the #1 border pattern (already on the first 3 signs), please specify that in the COMMENTS area of your PayPal so that I will know, because I will have to put that particular sign 'with' that particular border, and it will take time to do adjustments, but I wanted everyone to know, that as we proceed, it will be an option for a small increase in price.  If there are any questions please feel free to contact me here.

Okay folks, that's it for this time for the Zodiac Collection!!  For those who used to be (and still are) interested in my BLOG CHALLENGE, I will be having them again and the first one will be for the month of March.  Sorry, but no prizes......just the enjoyment of challenging yourself to do/try something different in this wonderful world of parchment craft!!

Happy Parching,

NEW PATTERNS IN STORE

Hi everyone,

My apologies for the delay in posting of completed packs, but it's been one thing after another and although that certainly should never be a reason a blogger should use, it is what it is!!!  lol

Anyway, there may still be some 'bugs' in the "store" and please let me know if that is the case.  Over the holidays I upgraded my devices from what they were to Windows 10 and it's not been pleasant in some instances, but I'm doing the best I can with conditions as they are.....for now.  So, please bear with me and as I stated.....if you find glitches, please let me know ASAP so I can attempt to correct them and make everyone happy. :) :)

As promised, the Birth Sign Zodiac patterns (3 that are completed, so far), are in the store and the Crowning Glory pattern is also now in the store.  The 'bad' news is:  those of us here in the US have lost most of our local suppliers (which were very few to begin with) and Ecstasy Crafts has raised their prices for parchment supplies which makes it absolutely necessary for me to raise the prices for my patterns.....as well as my commission work.  I hate doing this but I have no other option and I want to continue to be productive as long as I possibly can.....or as long as the supplies last!!!!  So, be angry with me, but please, buy if you can so I can continue to do what I love.

Here are the patterns that are in the store as of today......Sunday, Jan. 24, 1016  I am continuing to work on more Zodiac signs and Pisces is soon to be posted, so watch for that next.

If you are wondering why the Leo is in the mix this time......well, it is my own birth sign and it's the one I made first to test the pattern!!!

Happy Parching,
Vickie

WELCOME 2016!!!!!! I AM BACK......

HELLO, HELLO, HELLO....

Gosh, I honestly do not know where to begin, but here I am and I am FINALLY ready to get back in the groove.....parchment groove, that is!!  As you can see, on the date of my 'last' post, it has been well over a year since I was here last and LOTS has happened, both medically and personally, but for now, we will stick to parching.....bottom line is, I found my mojo and am busy once again.  :)

So, lets get down to business and see what I'm up to for the next few months.  First, I have begun designing a Zodiac Birth Sign Collection of 8"X8" wall hangings and I will be posting a new birth sign each month throughout this year.  They will be available for purchase, and download upon receipt of payment, in the blog store.  Now, every parcher will agree that creating anything for the males in our lives (from parchment paper) is 'almost' impossible, so although I tried not to be gender specific in this collection, it does have a definite rugged 'look' to it, soooooo, later on I will design another complete collection that is a bit more feminine so no one gets left out!!!!!!  Here is a sample of the first collection:

 Zodiac Birth Sign Collection

When one is not parching for an extended time it's very difficult to remember everything in the right order, in this craft, when writing instructions!!!!  I had hoped to have the Capricorn completed in time (in December) to have it posted and ready for purchase, but with the holidays I couldn't get everything in order, so it is ready NOW, if anyone wants to start their collection with this sign.  Otherwise, the next sign is Aquarius and it will be posted over this weekend (1/17) so watch for it!!

I have also had many requests for the pattern pack for my Crowning Glory design and it took me quite awhile to 'remember' how I had put all my scribbling to together, but it finally was completed and it will also be in the blog store very soon.  Here is that design, as a reminder:

Crowning Glory

Lastly, for this time.....I would like to thank one and all for your loyalty in continuing to 'check in' here to see if I was still around over the last 1 1/2 years and to all my fellow parchers for the support and kind words when I have had the courage to try and get something 'new' posted every once in awhile on FB.  It truly has meant a lot to me to know that there are lots of wonderful folks who enjoy my work watching for something new to pop up somewhere!!!!!  :)

Well, that's it for now.  There will be some challenges started too (like we used to have....sorry, but no prizes because the geographical coordination from sponsors is nearly impossible for us on this side of the pond) but we will continue to have fun with challenges simply for that......the fun in it!!!!

Happy New Year to everyone and

Happy Parching,
Vickie

Parchment Craft Grid Work - Challenge!!

Hello, hello, hello!!!

Goodness, it seems like it's been forever since my last post, but in fact, it's only been a few weeks!!  Okay, let's get things started.....

Several months ago I purchased Kannikar Sukseree's latest book titled, Best of the Best Parchment Craft Grid Work and although I've not been able to make as many projects as I would like to, I did do something a bit different with one of the grid patterns that I liked, from the book.  The pattern I chose, is on Page 22 and I challenged myself to see how many different variations (aside from the ones already in the book!!) I could make.

So, I began my self inflicted challenge by making one, of a collection of Vintage Ladies that I have, and for the image, I also incorporated my own parchment craft technique, "Etched Glass", which can be purchased by clicking on the image below.

Okay, here are my beautiful ladies.....let's see if you can easily see the differences between each of the grid borders I made, from only one foundation pattern from Kanny's book!!!

My version of Grid 27
Grid 27 - Looks the same but it's not

My version of Grid 27
My version of Grid 27

This was a wonderful challenge, for me, and it was absolutely amazing just how many different borders I could create from just the one grid design!!  There are probably many more variations of the foundation design, but I was ready to move on to a new project, so I only challenged myself to do four.

I've shared my challenge with all of you, and now I would like to challenge anyone, who also purchased Kannikar Sukseree's Grid Work book, to take on the task of choosing one pattern from the book and see how many different ways it can be made.....or just challenge yourself to creating four new grid borders from one foundation pattern!!

Who is up for the challenge?

Happy Parching...

A Man's Mandala

Well now, I've been trying to get back here and it has taken me a wee bit longer than I had expected.  :((  My right shoulder remains out of the rotator cuff and when I am creating parchment projects now, I have to do it with my right arm in a sling.  Not a fun thing to have to do but I've learned over the many, many past months, that I've been dealing with this, that it can be done.  Oh yes, did I mention I'm right handed!!!!  It now takes me a very long time, from beginning to end, to produce the beautiful works I share with everyone here, so please hang in there with me and I'll continue to bring you as many fun and exciting "out of the box" things to try, as I always have!!  So.....let's see what I've mustered up this time around.  :))

In reviewing my whole blog to see what everyone is the most interested in, the winner is always the same......MANDALAS!!!!  Personally, I love them too, but I also like a variety of things to create and challenge myself with!!  So, the next question I presented myself with was....what is the most difficult "people group" to create hand made items for, and again, the answer is always.....MALE!!

Now, with those two prerequisites in mind, I set about creating a parchment MAN'S MANDALA.  It may sound silly, but it was quite difficult to do!!!   It couldn't be too 'frilly' and the techniques used had to be rather bold.

This piece is an 8"X8" Wall Decoration made from an A4 sheet of parchment.  The design is traced in black and then 'shadow' lines are added to give the project a more bold, masculine appearance.  The only embossing tools I used were:  Perga small and medium  sun tool/Perga stylus and size 1 and 3 embossing balls.

A Man's Mandala - Detailed View
Although it took me much longer, than ever before, to complete this project, (only because I have to have my arm in a sling when I parch!!) I think I accomplished my goal of making it work as a 'Man's Mandala'!!  Maybe I'm a bit biased in my overview, so tell me what you think!!!!  Do you think it meets the requirements of bold and masculine.....or do you think it's still to frilly??  Weigh in and share your thoughts.

Happy Parching,

A Man's Mandala....continued:

A reader suggested that maybe a more 'masculine' color be used for the mounting card stock behind the mandala, sooooooooo, here are a couple other options!!

A Man's Mandala - Mounted on Gray and Framed

A Man's Mandala - Mounted on Brown and Framed

Just as it is with all projects, sometimes finding the 'right' mounting color and frame, for your project,  is more difficult than the project itself!!

I'm Back....and I bring a challenge!!

Hello...hello...hello!!!!!  I know, I have been away far too long (had...and still have...a few new, serious health issues to deal with) and I promised at the beginning of 2012 there would be some new things to play with so although I'm a wee bit behind, I'll be writing again and sharing my journey through the wonderful world of parchment craft!!!

I had a lot of things "in the fire", so to speak, and they all need finishing up, so I can share them with all of you.  In the meantime, here is a little project to keep you busy :))

Springtime Flowers Fan

Today is the first day of Spring, so what better project than some spring flowers popping their little heads above ground!!  The inspiration for this fan came from bobbin lace, which I dearly love.  Below is a detailed view of my work.

Fan Detail

CHALLENGE!!  WHO IS UP FOR A CHALLENGE?????   Awwwwww, come on now, I said up at the beginning that this would be a little something to keep you busy!!!!  lol

Springtime Flowers Fan Pattern
Okie dokie, here we go!!!  I LOVE CHALLENGES!!! :))  Everyone can see I chose white work as the technique for my fan.  My fan is also a full A4 size wall decoration.  The CHALLENGE is:  Download the FREE fan pattern and do whatever your heart desires from it.  When complete, either send a photo/scan back here, to me, OR some of you may find it easier to post to Facebook and I will download it from there and share it with all my wonderful blog followers right here in the Guest Gallery!!!

Now, my challenges are not a competition so there is nothing to win.  It's simply a chance to take a break from 'other' things and take part in a self challenge using a pattern with absolutely no instructions!!!!!

Enjoy and have some fun....

Parchment Craft "Crowning Glory"....continued

I'm back again, already!!!  I don't have an expensive, high powered, high definition camera and that's why I've never included good quality close up shots of my work, but the "Crowning Glory" piece brought all that to my mind once again.  The bottom line here is that the same "challenge" was in my face once again and as soon as I posted the first part of this topic, I immediately felt like I was cheating everyone out of how much work there really is, in this particular piece for you to see, because none of you could 'see' it the way I could.

Sooooooo, since the original post was made a couple of days ago, I've been busy trying many, many things with the tools I do have at hand and.......drumroll, please!!!!!  I "think" I have resolved an issue that has plagued me for a long time......here are two close up views of "Crowning Glory"!!  If anyone still cannot see all the detail work, please, please, please let me know. :))

Hopefully, with these two close up views you can actually see the "pergabroidery" technique I spoke of in the first post....that no one could really see, but me!!! Just a little reminder......if the close ups are still not working, please let me know so I can work a bit more on the solution!!!  Thanks.  :))

Happy Parching!!

Parchment Craft "Crowning Glory"

Oh gosh, I just realized I have not shared this project here!!!  So, without further delay, I'll get right to it :))

This piece is another that was "in the works" (August 2010) when my right shoulder decided it wanted to live outside the rotator cuff.....not where it's supposed to be, but to this date it remains in that condition so I have been focusing, mainly, on putting the finishing touches on projects that were in my 'to complete' folder.  I then get them posted on the various sites that I share my work on and  I'm not sure how I managed to not post it here too.  Well, here it is and it's called "Crowning Glory".....

Mounted
Framed

As you can see, it is a full A4 size and when framed it is 9" X 11" (including frame), so it's a very noticeable piece when hung on the wall.  One day I will get the pattern reworked so that it can be used by anyone other than myself!!!  It's in pretty rough shape at the moment because I haven't taken the time to clean up the draft version of it for public use!!

The reason I have shared the mounted photo, as well as the framed photo, is because, when enlarged, the mounted photo shows more of the detail work on the project.  Instead of doing lots of heavy embossing on this piece, I chose to do what a very talented, parching friend of mine created, called "pergabroidery".  If you look very closely, you will see that there are LOTS of tiny 'thread' lines throughout the piece.  These are to resemble embroidery threads and when the piece is seen (in real life) one cannot tell, without actually touching the piece, that it is not embroidery thread....it is 'thread like embossing'.  I love doing this technique and I adore the finished, elegant look it gives the completed works.

Happy Parching!!

Starburst - Parchment Wall Decoration

Well now, I was thinking the other day that it's been awhile since I have offered up a parchment challenge here on the blog!!  Soooooo, having said that, let's see what we can do about it :))

This time I am going to share one of my own designs with you.....it's called "Starburst".  I will provide the pattern WITHOUT instructions and your task is to present your own interpretation of the pattern and when complete, please send me a photo/scan of your project!!  I always love to see all the different ways another person "sees" a pattern and how it can be made :))  With your permission, I will always happily share works from challenges (and other fun events) in the Guest Gallery, so don't be shy.....and don't think your work has to be perfect.....we're here to have fun and to challenge ourselves....and please, please, please, it is not a competition....there are no prizes!!!  So come on and join me and let's add your project to what I have made from my pattern.....

Anyone up for the challenge??

Starburst - Wall Decoration

Starburst Pattern
**To print your pattern:  Right click on the pattern image and on the drop down menu, click on "save image to".  Click on "save" to wherever you want it to be saved on your computer.....or an external drive.  When you are ready to print, it can be reduced, or enlarged, to suit your project size.**

As you can see, I made my pattern into an A4 size wall decoration, however, in the challenge you can do whatever you like and any size you like!!  Use any techniques/tools/grids, etc. you like!!  You can combine other crafts (ie:  decoupage, embroidery, 3D, etc.) with your parchment.....step out of the box and see what you come up with!!  Most of all, challenge yourself and HAVE FUN!!!!  :))

Abstract Christmas Tree

Happy Holidays to Everyone!!!
Well now, my intentions have certainly been good, BUT, with my dominant shoulder still out of its rotator cuff, doing much with that arm has not really been an option I've had since early August!!  Unfortunately, surgery is not an option so until I can manipulate my right arm/shoulder back where it should be I've been making "life adjustments" to work around the issue :))
I don't like falling behind in my blog posting and I'm getting very close to doing just that, so I will do a bit of catching up today!!  This Christmas card is an 'additional' one that I had to make recently for someone I had overlooked on my list, so while I was deciding what I wanted to make I wandered back into my 'abstract' vector image collection and spent an afternoon putting images, grid border patterns, colors, etc., together and this is what happened when all was said and done.......
Abstract Christmas Tree
Considering this card is for a male friend, I felt the bulkiness of the tree and grid border were well suited, so I proceeded and I really like the way it turned out!!
The tree design in my own creation, but the grid border is from Arie vd Linden and he has  several hundred grid border designs that he shares (for FREE) to anyone, around the world, who would like to have them!!  This particular border design is #26 on the link I've provided above.  Now, although I use a lot of his designs for my own creations (with his written permission) I have to alter them somewhat because his border designs are created for standard European greeting card sizes.  All of my cards are 5" X 7"....the standard size for American greeting cards.  **If you would like to learn how to resize his grid border designs to whatever size you prefer making your greeting cards, please click on the "Tutorials" tab at the top of this blog.**

Here's a little hint at what I hope to share with everyone sometime in January 2012!!!  I have been working on some things (some FREE...some not!!) to help those of you who would like to use my techniques, but don't have the photo editing programs they require!!  Sooooooo, stay tuned and after the holidays have come and gone....and I've had a wee bit of time to recoup.....we'll have a New Year to begin some "new things".  :))

Happy Parching,

"Do It" Blog Challenge #6 - Hearts

Now, before I get into what I've been doing the past few days, let me share the link to this wonderful blog, from Poland, that's sole purpose is to arrange parchment craft challenges!!!  Zro'b To!- Do It!  Please go take a peek and see what they have been up to.  It's a great way to keep the juices flowing in the creative parts of the brain :))  They are on Challenge #6, which is HEARTS!!

I have just completed my project for the challenge and now I face another challenge!!!!  I've got to figure out how to link my project to their blog so everyone can see it....along with all the other beauties that have been submitted :))

My piece is a Wall Decoration and measures 7 X 10.5 inches and is suitable for a 9 X 11 inch photo frame.  It is my own design and the technique I have used is white work....and is called "Happiness"!!

Okay folks, I'm off to see if I can figure out what I'm to do to get my submission linked to the Do It! Blog :))

A Wee Bit of Parchment Christmas 2011

Goodness, here it is September already!!  I've made several Christmas cards for family and friends and they are tucked away in their hiding place so no one can see them til the time rolls around when they are supposed to be seen, but these  are a few "extras" I've recently made for 'just in case' situations :))  Nothing fancy, mind you....they are "just in case"!!

The first five cards are made using my own technique as explained in my book titled, "Parchment Craft Etched Glass Technique".  You may also click on the cover of the book located on your left in the side bar for more information.  This technique does require the use of either Paint Shop Pro 8 (or any version there after)  OR  Adobe Photo Shop to create the images on the first five cards.

The last card is traditional white work and is a beautiful, abstract flourish, tree decoration also created in the photo editing program I use when I create my ©Parchment Craft Etched Glass Technique.

I'll be making up a few more "just in case" Christmas cards through Sept. in hopes of inspiring all the procrastinators out there to get busy so you're not a total wreck come December!!!

Happy Parching,
